Market Sectors

MES brings the world of commercial off the shelf equipment (COTS) to the naval sector in a manner which achieves outstanding results in terms of both equipment performance and price.  We excel at providing the COTS electronic equipment that best suits naval operations and optimising the equipment layouts accordingly.  Where COTS equipment is inappropriate, full milspec equipment can be installed.  MES is primarily a systems integrator and is comfortable with a wide range of  issues.

Fully Integrated Systems

One of MES specialist areas is in Naval Shipbuilding.  MES employs several former Royal Navy personnel with a wealth of knowledge on system integration and operation on naval platforms.

As a one stop shop MES will provide all of the subsystems mentioned below.  But more than that we have a special interest in integration to increase operational effectiveness of the platform.  We also are engaged in enduring partnerships with IPMS and propulsion manufacturers e.g. BAE Systems and Rolls Royce to bring partnerships that deliver real benefits to the customer:

Over many years MES has gained specialist expertise in the supply of Navigation and Communication packages on vessels designed to operated in the Oil and Gas sectors.  Such vessels include standby/safety vessels, platform supply vessels, pipelayers and dive support vessels.  The common theme on many of these vessels is adapting the bridge layout to suit operation from the aft end of the bridge with often a requirement to integrate into a DP system.  MES can assist with console design, bridge layouts, rules compliance to meet special class notations such as Naut OSV and providing suitable systems to help meet the CAP 437 requirements for offshore helidecks.
Other common features on this type of vessel are the requirement for integrated internal and external communications systems that meet the demands of charterers (e.g. VSAT).  Crew entertainment is an increasingly important consideration on these types of vessel and MES can advise and provide SAT TV systems and TV on demand on both newbuilds and retrofit installations.

Popular equipment we use in this sector is Furuno, Kelvin Hughes and Sperry (Radars, Nav aids and GMDSS comms), Vingtor or Phontech (internal comms).
The ever increasing video surveillance and CCTV domain has brought advances which can bring benefits to offshore operations.  This is an increasingly large side of our business.

MES has carried out so many of these installations that we can usually turn around an enquiry for a full package in a couple of days so please send us your specification.

MES provides assistance to refit shipyards and ship owners providing replacement equipment in the form of retrofits and upgrades.

We can provide expertise to carry out detailed planning for bridge upgrades with  minimal disruption to existing equipment.  Where necessary bespoke interface conversion units can be built to ensure compatibility.

The equipment fit on small craft and workboats requires us to draw on the best products from the leisure market and low end commercial and military sector.

One of our most active sectors in this field is on hovercraft where we have provided numerous systems to Griffon Hoverwork Ltd for craft all over the world conducting border guard and coastguard activities, as well as to our own Royal Marines.  We have developed a bespoke conning and engine instrument system to take account of the different control surfaces on these craft.
Another growth area for us is in high speed interceptors where we have been developing products and techniques to provide enhanced situation awareness by means of comms links and radar links to shore HQ’s and mother craft to enable them to carry out more effective surveillance and interdiction operations.
